Five colourful ways to wake up happy in your new home

Feeling stressed? These uplifting colour schemes will help ready you for a fresh new start.

“Moving house, and life in general, can be stressful sometimes. How can I use colour to make me feel re-energised?”

If you find the process of moving house stressful, you’re not alone – our global survey revealed that almost half of homeowners found themselves feeling frazzled after a move. Add to this mix a busy job, as well as a hectic family life, it’s no wonder we crave calmness at home.

Colour can provide a quick cure for tired minds. These five bedroom colour schemes will help you wake up feeling revived and ready to face the new day (along with any unpacking you haven’t finished yet).

1) Refreshing green Dulux paint

Green strikes the perfect balance between being vibrant and restful, making it perfect for a bedroom decor. Paint your walls in zesty hues for a bit of extra get-up-and-go in the morning or choose marine tones for a serene but invigorating feel.

2) Soothing violet Dulux colour

Violet is one of the most peaceful tones on the colour spectrum, promoting feelings of relaxation and wellbeing. It’s also said to aid meditation – just what you need to help switch off your mind after a hectic moving day.

3) Energising orange Dulux colour

Lively orange is guaranteed to have you leaping out of bed in the morning. Bright oranges have a vibrant, retro feel and because of their intensity usually work best as accents. If you want wall-to-wall orange, terracotta and coppery shades are a softer option for a bedroom decor.

4) Cheery yellow Dulux colour

A sunny yellow room will make you smile the second you open your eyes in the morning. Yellow often appears brighter once it’s up on your walls than it does in the colour chart so, for a bedroom scheme, it can be a good idea to go a couple of shades less bright than you might think so the colour isn’t too stimulating.

5) Calming blue Dulux colour

Blues make for a crisp, fresh colour scheme that’s supremely restful. In fact, it’s so calming that it can actually slow your heart rate, helping you to wind down at the end of a busy day and wake up feeling bright and breezy.

Top tip

For a subtle way to work mood-lifting paint colours into your scheme, go for an ombre effect with your chosen colour on the bottom half of the wall, fading out to white at the halfway point.
